For the first time ever, since the shield started in 1919, the 19th Maidenhead scout group won the competition as Troop Champions. This is also significant as it is the first time for 14 years that a scout group other than Pinkneys Green have won the competition. Pinkneys Green have had a straight 13-year win.
The 19th team was made up of only 6 scouts, 3 of whom are in the process of moving from cubs to scouts, so at the youngest end of the age range for scouting. The team won 6 of the 8 scout races, with a second and third in the other two plus as two scouts made the finals for three races were additionally placed fourth in two races and sixth in the other. A fantastic result for the group and with such a young team two scouts were required to swim in the under 14.5 races although eligible to swim in under 12.5. Additionally the top achieving scouts in both the under 12.5 and under 14.5 category were both from 19th Maidenhead.
